TURN 01 STILLPOINT Stillpoint City had twelve streets, twelve towers, and one rule: Nothing moved. Then, on the first night of the star-tide, Ren woke to a silver cup sliding across his table. His oval compass did not point north. Its red needle pointed sideways. Outside, North Street had crept one handspan ahead. Its tallest tower leaned against the moon.

TURN 02 MOONSTONE BEARINGS Ren followed the sideways needle beneath the plaza. There, under the sleeping city, rested twelve enormous moonstone spheres. Each one sat in a glass canal. Each one carried a different street. The spheres were not broken. They were waiting. Carved above them was a picture: twelve streets turning together around one quiet center.

TURN 03 THE BELL SIGNAL At dawn, Ren climbed the bell stair. One chime meant, Ready. Two meant, Turn. Three meant, Rest. Ren rang once. Twelve moonstone spheres brightened. He rang twice. North Street lurched. South Street slept. The city groaned like a cupboard full of plates. “Together,” Ren said. “The bell is for everyone.”

TURN 04 THE TURNING BRIDGE The copper bridge was the first to understand. It did not rush forward. It lifted its middle, turned on a ring of blue light, and made a wide doorway for the streets beside it. Ready. Turn. Rest. For the first time, East Street and West Street passed without bumping corners. Ren's compass needle steadied.

TURN 05 THE SLIDING LIBRARY The library worried that moving would tumble every book. Ren found its shelves hanging from fine brass arcs. When the floor glided left, the shelves swayed right. Not one book fell. Ready. Turn. Rest. The library crossed the plaza as softly as a shadow, carrying all its stories with it.

TURN 06 THE SUNWARD GARDEN The garden had spent a hundred years behind the Clock Tower. Its silver leaves had forgotten sunrise. Ren rang twice. The garden rolled along its moonstone canal and opened toward the east. Golden light poured through every leaf. The flowers lifted their glassy faces. Moving, Ren learned, could also mean finding what had been hidden.

TURN 07 THE MARKET GLIDE At the market, bowls of star-plums stood in twelve careful rows. The merchants tied no ropes and built no walls. Instead, they listened. Ready. Turn. Rest. Their street glided one small measure. Cups trembled. Spoons chimed. Not one plum rolled away. “Slow is still moving,” Ren said.

TURN 08 THE STILL ROOM One room needed quiet more than travel. So the city did not force it to move. Ren guided the other streets in a gentle circle around the dark-blue room. Its lamp flame stayed straight. Its water stayed smooth. The city made space without leaving anyone behind. Ren's compass pointed to the quiet center.

TURN 09 THE HIGH WIND By evening, a star-tide wind rushed between the towers. North Street pushed too fast. The turning bridge shuddered. The library shelves swung wide. Ren did not ring louder. He rang slower. Ready ... Turn ... Rest. The twelve streets shared the wind, passing its force from one moonstone sphere to the next until the city stood balanced again.

TURN 10 MANY DIRECTIONS “Toward the river!” called one street. “Toward the hills!” called another. Twelve bright paths tangled beneath Ren's feet. He placed his compass at the center and asked each street to choose one small turn, not one final destination. The paths loosened into a spiral. No street got everything. Every street got room.

TURN 11 THE GREAT TURN Under the rising aurora, Ren lifted the bell rope. Ready. Twelve moonstone spheres glowed. Turn. Bridge, library, garden, market, towers, and homes moved as one shining constellation. Rest. Stillpoint City completed a perfect circle without one crash, spill, or forgotten light.

TURN 12 NEW TRACKS At sunrise, the city rested in a place it had never seen before. Behind it, twelve golden tracks curled across the plain like a great guilloche ribbon. Ren's compass finally pointed north. Then it winked sideways once more. Stillpoint City kept its old name. But now everyone knew: Being steady did not mean never moving. It meant learning how to turn together.
