NOTE 01
ELEVEN NOTES
Every evening, the twelve towers of Chimewell City played the song that
welcomed night.
But on the first evening of silver rain, Oren counted only eleven notes.
One, two, three - all the way to eleven.
Then every bell rang at once, as if noise could cover what was missing.
Around Oren's neck, his triangular listening prism flickered violet.

NOTE 02
BENEATH THE FLOOR
The prism led Oren into the oldest bell tower.
At its center, one floor tile trembled without making a sound.
Oren lifted the tile. Beneath it ran a thread of pale blue light, fine as a
hair. It slipped down a copper stair and disappeared below the city.
Oren followed.
He wanted to find the missing note before the next night song.

NOTE 03
THE QUIET THREAD
Under Chimewell lay twelve glass channels.
Eleven blazed with golden sound waves. The last held only the thin blue
thread.
Oren touched his prism to the glass.
The thread curled away.
It was not hiding from him. It was making room.
Still, Oren did not understand what a song could do with an empty
channel.

NOTE 04
TOO LOUD
“Come back!” Oren shouted.
His voice burst into a hundred bright copies. The underground chamber flashed
red and gold. The quiet thread shrank until it was almost gone.
Oren tried one louder call.
The channels shook.
He covered his mouth.
The more sound he added, the less he could find.

NOTE 05
WATER LISTENS
Silver rain trickled through a crack and gathered in a black stone bowl.
Oren sat beside it.
When one drop fell, a small ring crossed the water. Then the water
became smooth enough to receive the next drop.
Ring. Stillness. Ring.
His listening prism changed from violet to blue.
The quiet thread returned.

NOTE 06
THE FIRST CHANNEL
Oren waited until the golden waves in the first channel faded.
Only then did he touch the glass.
A warm low note traveled through the chamber. Behind it came a space
wide enough to hear the silver rain.
The blue thread passed through that space and brightened.
“You need a turn, too,” Oren whispered.

NOTE 07
TOO MANY ECHOES
The seventh channel was packed with echoes.
Old bells, new bells, footsteps, laughter, doors, and drums all tried to
arrive first.
Oren did not push them apart. He raised his prism and gave each sound
one golden arc.
After every arc, he left one dark space.
The echoes stopped crashing and began to become a rhythm.

NOTE 08
A PLACE FOR QUIET
At the center of the channels stood an empty crystal cradle.
Oren placed no bell inside it.
He placed his listening prism there and stepped back.
The cradle gathered every pause in the city: the breath before a word,
the stillness after a laugh, the moment before rain touched stone.
A clear, dark-blue crystal began to grow.

NOTE 09
THE COMPETING BELLS
Aboveground, the towers prepared for the night song.
Each bell wanted to prove it was the missing one.
They rang higher, lower, faster, longer.
Windows rattled. Rain jumped from the roofs.
Oren carried the blue crystal into the plaza and held it up.
The crystal did not ring.
One by one, the bells became curious enough to stop.

NOTE 10
THE REST
In the first true quiet Chimewell had heard all day, Oren understood.
The twelfth place was not waiting for another bell.
It was a rest - a place where one sound ended and the next could be
heard.
Oren set the blue crystal into the empty ring at the center of the plaza.
The twelve towers leaned toward it and listened.

NOTE 11
THE WHOLE SONG
The night song began again.
One golden note.
A blue space.
Two silver notes.
Another blue space.
Across the city, bells took turns. Rain answered roofs. Footsteps found
the rhythm between chimes.
Nothing had been lost.
The whole song had been waiting for room enough to become clear.

NOTE 12
CHIMEWELL LISTENS
After that night, Chimewell still loved bells.
But the city also kept twelve small gardens where no bell was allowed to
ring.
Oren visited the highest one whenever silver rain returned.
His prism rested blue against his maroon vest.
He listened to the pause between two drops.
And there, quiet but complete, was the note made of silence.
